Six to seven foot Leyland cypress
grown in a seven gallon container
-
(total product
height, with container, is about ten inches taller.) This is
our Living Christmas Tree and is our original container product. It
is grown specifically for retail nurseries and Christmas tree farms so they
can offer their customers an attractive, live option to a cut Christmas tree
that can be handled and transported by the customer. When the height of the
container is added to that of the tree itself this is about all the
Christmas tree that will fit under an eight foot ceiling.
A decorated
Leyland is exceptionally attractive and these perform very well in the
home. Planting survival after Christmas is excellent and each tree comes
with a small folder which gives your customer suggestions for care and
planting.

Six to seven foot
Leyland cypress
grown in a fifteen gallon container
-
Our newest product, this is designed to go directly to the landscape. This
tree is a robust, rapid grower. It is single trunk and has been shaped to
improve its appearance and density. It is somewhat nicer than the average
nursery Leyland and is competitively priced.

- Eight to nine foot
Leyland cypress
grown in a fifteen gallon container
-
This is the
same tree described above but is a little older and a little taller. It
retains the appearance and density, and the competitive pricing.
- Leyland cypress
grown
in a two gallon container
-
This product was originally intended for Christmas tree
growers who have discovered they can cut a year off the time it takes to
grow a salable Christmas tree by starting with one of these instead of a
rooted cutting. It has since become popular as a retail product in areas
experiencing a lot of new home development.
We
grow these “pot tight” so they are tall and narrow, but they rapidly develop
the typical pyramid shape of the Leyland as soon as they are given room. We
cannot ship these plants by commercial carrier and they must be picked up at
our farm.

Arizona cypress
“Silver Smoke”
in a seven gallon container
-
Occasionally, experiments really do turn out better than expected. Silver
Smoke is one of those for us. This plant is silver gray and naturally
pyramidal in shape. It makes a most unusual Christmas tree. It also works
very well as a counterpoint in an all green landscape. We have lightly
sheared these trees and they are quite handsome.
-
Arizona cypress
“Blue Ice”
in a seven gallon container
-
There are a
number of cultivars of Arizona cypress and this must surely be one of the
prettiest. More columnar than pyramidal and with red-brown bark, this is a
most striking tree because of its shape and its color. You’ve seen things
that other people said were blue but they were really gray? After being
fed, this tree turns as blue as your shirt! When in full growth and seen in
bright sunlight it looks almost fluorescent.
-
Blue Point juniper
in a
fifteen gallon container
-
A very
dense, somewhat more formal plant than our cypresses, this five to six foot
tree is a dark, blue-green color. Junipers grow in all parts of the United
States and are often used in cityscapes as they are said to handle gasoline
and diesel fumes better than most plants.
-
Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria
japonica) in both seven gallon
and fifteen gallon containers.
-
Though not well known in Texas, this Asian
native is becoming increasingly popular in the eastern United States. It
has bright green foliage which becomes slightly bronze in winter. Michael
Dirr says this conifer, "grows fast and develops a handsome form without
extensive pruning." We like this plant but have very little experience with
it. The picture shows the largest ones we've ever seen!
- Rooted cuttings
-
We sell a
wide variety of rooted cuttings of woody plants and ornamentals for two
small propagators who consistently produce the best rooted material I’ve
seen. We have
Leyland cypress,
Silver Smoke, Blue Ice, Cryptomeria japonica, hollies, osmanthus, crepe
myrtles, junipers, cleyera, anise and barberry.
If you’re looking for
another species or a specific cultivar for starter plants call us, perhaps
we can help you find them.
