Title: Manual of Woody Landscape Plants Author: Michael A. Dirr Publisher: Stipes Publishing L.L.C. P. O. Box 526 Champaign, Illinois 61824 Comment: This is the most complete book on trees I’ve ever seen. It is about 1,200 pages of information written by a man who obviously loves trees and who knows a great deal about them. Though this is a genuine and informative reference work, it is written in a relaxed style I find most engaging.
Title: Leyland Cypress, a tree of beauty Authors: Roland E. Schoenike and Marvin T. Gaffney Publisher: Clemson University College of Forest and Recreation Resources Department of Forestry Clemson, South Carolina 29634-1003 Comment: A “soup to nuts” book about Leyland cypress. This little book is the first I ever read about the Leyland and, though some of our newer knowledge is slightly different, it is still a great place to start if you are seriously interested in this particular tree. |
